 Real interns.
In their own words.
Dan Hatt Human Resources intern turned full-time associate
I had the opportunity to work full- and part-time as a Human Resources intern for an entire year. The experience made my career. I developed relationships, established contacts, got to know the company’s culture and became a functioning member of my team. My experience as an intern cemented the fact that Allied was a company I wanted to be a part of.”
Erica Esbeck Underwriting intern turned full-time associate
Interning in the Personal Lines Underwriting department gave me hands-on experience in a business environment, and helped guide my decision to pursue a career in the insurance industry. During my internship, I not only worked on projects in the personal lines department, but I was also able to job shadow other departments. By building relationships in my department and through my job shadow experience, I became interested in pursuing a full-time position with Allied after college.”
Ben Schreurs Underwriting intern turned full-time associate
I accepted a position in Commercial Lines Underwriting after interning in the department during the summers of 2000-2003. The internships really helped me gain an understanding of how insurance actually works, and how Allied works. It also proved to be a great way for management to get a first hand look at my talents and my work ethic, which are things you can’t always demonstrate on a resume. Plus, I met all of the people I would eventually be working with, which helped me come to realize how much of a people business this really is.”
Mekenze Bishop Human Resources intern turned full-time associate
I spent time interning in Human Resources at the Sales and Service Center in Des Moines, then in regional office Human Resources. It provided an awesome stepping stone into my full-time career. I could not have asked for a better experience. My internship was full of real-life, applicable work experiences, and provided an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills I had developed as a student. The tools I acquired throughout my internship are tools that I use on a daily basis in my current position.”
Erika Estrada Claims intern “Many times students are taught material on paper, but the classroom can’t tell you if you will actually like a certain job or not. An internship at Allied Insurance provided a hands-on opportunity to experience the duties and responsibilities that come with a job. After this internship, I know I will be satisfied with this profession.”
John Dolan Claims intern “This was my first internship. In the past I have been skeptical about a future in the insurance industry, but this internship has me excited about Allied. The work environment is awesome.”
Linsey Langkamp Human Resources intern “Everyone on my team helped me learn how to improve myself in a different way. I learned ways to improve my organizational skills, how to more effectively use technology, ways to improve my written and verbal communication, as well as methods to more effectively recruit for open positions.”
Renae Mitchell Network Services intern “Allied is a place I would like to work full-time. The people here are extremely friendly and helpful, which helped make my internship experience a very positive one. I am excited about the future of the company, and I would like to be part of where this organization is headed.” |
